Star Storage Introduces Version 1.8
of Star Documentum Connector for HCP
Solution Delivers Improved Integration, Data Integrity and Manageability
Star Storage, a leading information technology company focused on information protection and management, today announced the release of version 1.8 of its Star Documentum Connector for HCP. The new Star Documentum Connector for HCP offers seamless and transparent integration and content migration — without disruption or restrictions — between Hitachi Content Platform (HCP), an enterprise-class, backup-free cloud and archive storage solution, and the EMC Documentum content management platform. With Star Documentum Connector for HCP, customers can enhance data storage and archiving capabilities; improve performance, information access speed, and metadata search capabilities; ensure consistency of migration operations; minimize backup complexity; and support e-discovery actions and compliance processes.
Hitachi Content Platform, a software-defined object storage solution, runs on hardware and provides a wide range of flexibility, automation, configurability and input options. This makes it ideal for customers looking to archive data, backup less data to tape, consolidate more data into a smaller footprint, and analyze and retrieve file data in a single system. HCP provides massive scale via open interfaces, including HCP REST, S3 and Swift. HCP virtualizes storage and intelligently automates IT operations so that customers can manage rapidly growing and increasingly diverse file data. HCP uses metadata from users and applications, like EMC Documentum, to control access to stored data content, manage data lifecycles, and ensure appropriate protection. HCP also offers multi-tenancy, built-in data protection, and chargeback. These features make it well suited to a wide range of applications — from cloud service providers looking to offer storage as a service, to enterprise IT environments struggling with data volumes, data growth, backup, data governance, or security issues.
In addition to providing full integration between Hitachi Content Platform and EMC Documentum, the scalable and secure Star Documentum Connector for HCP, certified by both Hitachi Data Systems and EMC, offers several new advanced features in version 1.8 to use the full potential of available infrastructure and to further improve the flexibility and consistency of migration operations. These features include:
- New options to check the data integrity of migrated content;
- Ability to transfer Documentum hold settings to HCP at the content level, including updates after content migration;
- Support for new Documentum content objects when migrating or copying content to HCP;
- Ability to apply new HCP retention settings during content migration;
- New administrative options, including environment customization, error email notifications, and log file retrieval.
“The Hitachi Technology Alliance Program seeks to foster synergistic combinations of partner technology with Hitachi technology to create innovative solutions, like the Star Documentum Connector for HCP” said Tim Durant, Senior Director, Global ISV Alliances at Hitachi Data Systems. “HCP helps solve the challenges customers face today, but also helps them prepare for what’s next – from cloud and distributed IT, to metadata-driven automation. The Star Documentum Connector for HCP from our partner Star Storage augments the capabilities of HCP and makes it easier for customers to leverage this competitive advantage.”
“Our certified Star Documentum Connector for HCP addresses two key customer needs: seamless and transparent integration between object storage and content management platforms, and non-disruptive, unrestricted content migration between them” said Catalin Paunescu, CEO, Star Storage. “With the connection of the best-in-class Hitachi Content Platform and EMC Documentum, we tackle these pain points and allow our global customers to achieve business outcomes, such as enhanced data storage and archiving capabilities, improved information access, and support for critical e-discovery actions and compliance processes.“
Star Documentum Connector for HCP was first released in 2009. Since that time, it has seen successful implementations across four continents and among many Fortune 500 companies.
